Visa Information
All visitors to Ethiopia need a visa. All visa except service and official passports are processed through e-visa.

Types of visa and validity
| Tourist Visa | Based on applicant’s request, a single tourist visa valid for one month or a multiple for three months can be issued. |
|---|---|
| Business Visa | As per the request of the applicants, a single business visa valid for one month or a multiple for three months and for those organizations participating in development activities in Ethiopia, a multiple business visa valid for six months or one year can be issued. |
| Diplomatic and Service Visas | Upon the request by the governments of Japan by a note verbal, diplomatic and service visas valid for three months will be granted. |
| Transit visa | Upon the request, a single visa can be granted. |
Visa validity starts from the day we receive the application document.

Required Documents

- A copy of Passport (First paged/picture page)
- One photograph : black and white or color is acceptable (3cm×4cm)
- * In case of Business Visa,(for Investment/Business,short term meeting,workshop,and seminar for Regional &International Org.,For Gov’t Business, and Regional and International Organization) , invitation/recommendation letter from the host Company/Organization/Government office to be visited in Ethiopia indicating the reasons for a visit and period of stay.For NGO and Journalist/film-shootings applicants/company should contact their partner/host form Ethiopia to apply to Immigration in Addis Ababa.Embassy can issue visa after confirmation
* In case of Diplomat and Service Visas, note verbal is necessary
* Visa application sent by post is acceptable. Please send the necessary documents and payment to the Embassy through GENKIN KAKITOME (registered mail). - Application form : Download visa application form

- Non-Japanese living in Japan needs one copy of alien registration card issued by Japanese government.

- *TOURIST VISA ON ARRIVAL: Tourist visa can be issued on arrival at Bole International Airport for nationals and residents of the following countries: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Luxembourg, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Democratic people’s Republic of Korea (northern Korea),Poland, Portugal, Republic of Korea(south Korea), the Russian Federation, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United State of America. NOTE:- Eritreans and foreign nationals of Eritrean Origin shall not be issued a visa on Arrival. They must obtain an entry visa prior to their departure to Ethiopia..

Document Authentication
All documents should first be authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or any other authorized organizations or agencies in the country of origin prior to apply for the authentication at the Embassy. All documents should be original.

【ATTENTION】 Since September 2012 Embassy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in Japan doesn’t issue VISA and Authentication for nationals of Philippines, Indonesia and South Korea. Please kindly contact with Embassy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in South Korea.
